UK: Four held in cannabis cafe raid
BBC Online
Thursday 11 Aug 2005 Four people have been arrested during a police raid on a cafe in West Sussex where cannabis is believed to be sold. Forty police officers were involved in the operation at the cafe in Victoria Road, Worthing, on Thursday afternoon. Officers used specialist equipment to force their way in and fire crews were on hand after reports of smoke inside, which turned out not to be a fire. Sussex Police said a substantial amount of what was believed to have been cannabis was seized during the raid. Anti-social behaviour Three people - a woman and two men - were arrested on suspicion of supplying a controlled drug. A man was also arrested on warrant for failing to appear before a court. Three people were given street warnings for possession of cannabis. Others were searched and released. There were about 30 people inside the premises at the time of the operation, police said. Acting Ch Insp Steve Eldridge said the raid was carried out following a number of complaints from the public about anti-social behaviour linked to the cafe.
