Letter: No Reason To Gripe About Cannabis Stall
Alun Buffry Evening News, Norwich
Wednesday 24 Jun 1998 In his letter headed 'Sad sign of the times' ( Evening News June 17 ), Gary Moore wrote that he was "amazed and shocked to see a stall outside the C&A store on the Haymarket promoting the legalise cannabis campaign whereas his Church had been denied the Right to preach from the same spot." It is indeed sad that he has not been allowed and there is certainly a good cause for readers to complain about that to the Council. However, there is no reason to complain about the cannabis stall. Mr Moore went on to say: "Drugs of any kind take people captive to addiction. Jesus, however, promises to set men free." In Genesis, God gives mankind : "All plants that bear seed, anywhere on earth, and every tree bearing fruit which yields seed". Jesus said: "Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man." St. Timothy, in his First Epistle explained: "For everything that God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected when it is taken with thanksgiving, since it is hallowed by God's own word and by prayer". It seems that Gary is confusing the God-given plant cannabis with synthetic and dangerous drugs. Sincerely, Alun Buffry Norwich
