UK: Grandma on Cannabis Charges
Karon Kelly The Shields Gazette
Tuesday 06 Mar 2007 A SOUTH Shields-born gran who "passionately" believes in using cannabis to relieve pain has appeared in court charged with growing and possessing the drug. Pensioner Patricia Tabram denies one count of possession and one of cultivating the drug, despite cooperating with police when they raided her home in the village of Humshaugh, near Hexham, in September, 2005. The 68-year-old, who grew up in Fort Street, in the Lawe Top area, directed officers to a bedroom where cannabis plants were growing in a wardrobe. Tabram told them there was powder stored in jars in her kitchen to be used in cooking. Police seized four plants from her Northumberland home, growing equipment and the powdered form of the drug which the prosecution claims was for personal use. Tom Moran, prosecuting, told Carlisle Crown Court: "She says she suffers symptoms from various unfortunate health problems. "She believes she should be able to take cannabis to do what conventional medicine cannot do." The case continues. http://www.southtynesidetoday.co.uk/
