UK: Lift for cannabis gran
Sunday Sun
Saturday 24 Mar 2007 Neighbours of under-fire cannabis gran Patricia Tabram have told housing association bosses to leave her alone. Patricia is facing eviction from her home, in Humshaugh, Northumberland, by Milecastle Housing. Milecastle bosses say they will be forced to take action if the 68-year-old continues to use the class C drug in breach of her tenancy agreement. But neighbour Jean Fawcett has claimed housing bosses are being heavy-handed and should leave Patricia alone as she only uses the drug for pain relief. Jean, 80, said: "I can't understand it at all. If Patricia was a drug dealer and all sorts of people were coming to the street at different times of the day, I would be the first to complain, but that simply isn't the case. "I think it is awful that a group of people can put someone in the position where they have to choose between a pain-free life or being made homeless." Mrs Tabram was sentenced on March 7 to 250 hours of community service after being found guilty of possessing and cultivating cannabis. http://icnewcastle.icnetwork.co.uk/sundaysun/
