Malaysian court sentences Thai woman to hang for drug trafficking

Asia Pacific News

Wednesday 19 Aug 2009

Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia's High Court on Wednesday sentenced a Thai woman to death by hanging for trafficking cannabis five years ago, a news report said.

Roseedah Cheubong, 41, shed tears in the courtroom in the north-eastern state of Kelantan after the sentence was passed, the official Bernama news agency said.

The single mother of one was caught with more than 1 kilogram of cannabis in February 2004, while waiting in front of a petrol station.

Malaysia's tough drug laws prescribe the mandatory death sentence for those found guilty of trafficking most types of drugs.
