Netherlands: Dutch Ditch Weird Weed-Pass Policy

The highly unpopular "weed pass" has been abandoned by the new Dutch government. Tourists are once again allowed to visit the country's world-famous cannabis cafes.

The pass intended to block foreigners from entering shops that sell marijuana. The xenophobic policy, instituted in May in Holland's southern provinces, was scheduled to hit Amsterdam at the start of 2013.

The conservative Parliament had decided to limit marijuana sales to Dutch citizens. But a recent Parliament shake-up has resulted in scuttling of the "wietpas" program.
