New Zealand: NZ Calling For A National Conversation About Cannabis
scoop.co.nz Wednesday 14 Nov 2012 New Zealanders Are Calling For A National Conversation About Cannabis And The Conversation Has Already Begun A new website (www.conversation.org.nz) has been spreading on social media to allow kiwis from all walks of life to share their views on the cannabis issue In 2007 the New Zealand Drug Foundation called for a national conversation about cannabis because it has been one of this country's most controversial political issues. In 2010 the New Zealand Law Commission recommended a relaxation of the cannabis laws. The Government declined to act on the Law Commission's recommendations but cannabis use has continued to increase while the harms associated have not decreased. Concerned kiwis have come together to start the conversation that we never had. Conversation.org.nz has started appearing on Youtube, Twitter and Facebook encouraging all New Zealanders to share their views about cannabis and the laws surrounding it. The website has released exclusive videos asking questions about the current situation regarding cannabis in New Zealand. The organisation is also fundraising with the aim of placing the videos as ads on prime-time TV and getting all New Zealanders to join the conversation.
