UK: Cannabis Hypocrisy Protest Clark French Sensi Seeds Monday 07 Oct 2013 I am really happy to be writing for such a prestigious company as Sensi Seeds! It is a real honour to have my name associated with such a well respected organisation within the cannabis industry. I am going to do my best to keep you up to date with all the important news and activism which is happening in the UK and my personal activism on a semi-regular basis (health permitting). In this, my first article for the Sensi Seeds website I shall be updating you on the recent UKCSC protests across the UK and be talking about up and coming local and national protests by both the UKCSCs and NORML UK. The UK has recently seen a huge increase in the amount of cannabis-related activism mostly due to the formation of the UKCSC and NORML UK. Now that we have some organisations that activists can get behind, the wheels have slowly but surely gone into motion, with 2013 being the most active year on the cannabis scene in the UK since the Legalise Cannabis Alliance (RIP) de-registered as a political party. I am proud to have played a part by organising the Berkshire Protest Picnics with the help of the other administrators at the BCC. Protests have been happening across the country this year, so far we have had a very successful 420 celebration which saw 10,000 people attend the event organised by the London Cannabis Club – our most popular UKCSC and the most liked UK cannabis-related page on Facebook. We have had events in Cardiff, Reading, London, Southampton, Glasgow, Bristol, and Birmingham. There are lots more coming up before the winter, including the Cannabis Hypocrisy Protest organised by NORML UK on the 9th of October. Dutch patients prescribed bedrocanThis protest is one which I am personally very excited about as we have been talking about it for a very long time. To fill in the background for this protest you need to know about the Schengen Agreement. This agreement allows for EU patients to freely take their prescribed medicines to other EU countries. As many EU countries allow medical cannabis, it means that a resident of such a country who is prescribed medical cannabis can legally bring it into and use it in the UK. However, the UK government refuses to allow their own citizens to bring back cannabis medicine which they are legally prescribed in another EU country. We think that this is a very powerful thing to show and it proves that the UK government is discriminating against its own citizens. NORML UK released the following statement on its website. “On the 9th of October 2013, NORML UK will be staging a peaceful protest by way of a static demonstration in close proximity to the Houses of Parliament in London” “The purpose of this peaceful protest is to demonstrate the hypocrisy and the flaws of cannabis legalisation here in the UK, Europe and the rest of the world. The attendees will mainly comprise legal and illegal cannabis consumers smoking or consuming their cannabis within the same public space. We will be making the distinction by way of large banners, which tell the story for each group of patients. – see more at NORML-uk.org.” We hope to see a large number of people at this protest, I will be there with the rest of the NORML UK board. Over all the cannabis campaign is getting some real momentum in the UK at the moment. Now is the time to join the growing revolution! Get in contact with NORML-uk and the UKCSC if you too want to be part of the inevitable change. http://sensiseeds.com/en/blog/cannabis-hypocrisy-protest/
