DOWNGRADING CLASSIFICATION IS RIGHT, BUT BIGGEST PROBLEM IS CONTAMINATION
Campaigners such as Carl Wagner, of west Hull, believe the decision to change
the drug's classification from Class B to Class C was justified.
He said: "After a thorough examination of the evidence, the Government's
select committee said the evidence does not stand for it being a Class B drug.
"The drug warriors have resented it ever since.
"Those who are hankering for cannabis to go back to being a Class B drug
have an illogical argument. When it dropped to Class C, according to all the
figures, cannabis consumption dropped too.
"People often say they grow their own so they don't have to buy it from
gangsters, but the biggest problem is contamination.
"Resin has been contaminated for years and some of that is manufactured
here in the UK."
Although he agreed with Tim Hollis's position on separating small-time and
large commercial operations, he disagrees with the way raids are carried out.
Mr Wagner said: "The vast majority of us cannabis users never commit
crime.
"It is sensible to want to separate the issues of people who grow their
own on a small scale and those who do it on a commercial level and are part of
organised crime. It is different, but it is quite a complicated market."
