UK: Cannabis: Former councillor's verdict
Marc Baker Wales on Sunday
Sunday 24 Apr 2005 A FORMER councillor who is battling prostate cancer and diabetes last night told how a spoonful of cannabis makes his medicine go down. Pensioner Glyn Williams, 74, says cannabis is the best thing he has ever taken to combat the pain from his crippling illnesses which have left him wheelchair-bound. The former Delyn borough councillor was forced to step down as a community leader in 1983 after he was struck down by multiple sclerosis. Mr Williams, of The Square, Caerwys, says he was forced to break the law after his health took a turn for the worse. Mr Williams receives his weekly fix through Bud Buddies for free because of the severity of his illness. He said: "My 69-year-old wife Margaret mixes a tea-spoon of cannabis with yoghurt each night for me before I go to bed. "I wake up each morning feeling relaxed and refreshed. I have been taking it for 18 months and I get a much better night's sleep. "My doctor knows I take it and he backs me. I don't know what my former council colleagues would think but I don't give a damn so long as it does me good. "I have no intention of stopping and I don't mind speaking out about it. Not at all. My doctor is quite happy and my five children support me."
