GW Pharma gets Spanish order for cannabis-based pain drug Sativex

LONDON (AFX) - GW Pharmaceuticals PLC is to supply its cannabis-based
pain-relieving medicine Sativex to 600 people in Catalonia for
compassionate use, the first time the treatment has been available in
Europe outside clinical trials.

Sativex is not yet approved by health regulators in Europe, but the
Catalan Health Department decided to approve the compassionate access
programme after calls by patients for access to a cannabis-based medicine.

Many sufferers of illnesses such as Multiple Sclerosis that cause severe
neuropathic pain find currently available medicines have no effect.
