UK: Police to target cannabis growers
Glasgow Evening Times
Wednesday 30 Nov 2005 POLICE in Glasgow today vowed to get tough with people caught growing their own cannabis plants. The crackdown follows a shock rise in cannabis cultivation since the drug was reclassified last year. Detective Sergeant Kenny Simpson said: "The number of people growing cannabis in the domestic environment or on a larger scale is increasing. "If an officer finds someone in possession of cannabis they are duty-bound to report the circumstances to the procurator-fiscal. "We are also warning shopkeepers of the consequences of knowingly selling drugs paraphernalia." Eight-five people were reported to the procurator-fiscal for allegedly growing the drug in 2004-2005 compared to 52 in 2001-2002.
