UK: Cannabis crops 'on the rise'
The Scotsman
Wednesday 30 Nov 2005 Police have recorded an increase in cannabis cultivation since the drug was reclassified last year. Strathclyde Police said that, in 2004/2005, 85 people were reported to the procurator fiscal, compared to 52 people in 2001/2002. The drug was reclassified from class B to C in January 2004. Det Sgt Kenny Simpson, said: "The number of people growing their own cannabis in the domestic environment or on a larger scale is increasing. "If an officer finds someone in possession of cannabis they are duty bound to report the circumstances to the procurator fiscal. "We are also warning shopkeepers of the consequences of knowingly selling drugs paraphernalia for the preparation or administration of a controlled drug. "I would urge all shopkeepers to think of the impact on the community in which they are based. "We are willing to offer advice and assistance regarding the legislation that impacts on the sale of these items."
