SCOTLAND: Rap for man, 60 with £12,000 cannabis stash
Evening Times Saturday 04 Feb 2006 A 60-year-old man who grew thousands of pounds worth of cannabis in his home has escaped a jail sentence. The High Court in Glasgow heard that police found £12,000 worth of cannabis and £2000 in cash when they raided Richard Murray's flat in Keith Court, Partick, on December 30, last year. They also found cannabis plants being cultivated in two of the flat's bedrooms. Murray admitted growing cannabis and being in illegal possession of the drug. His plea of not guilty to being concerned in the supply of cannabis was accepted. He told the court he was a heavy cannabis smoker and was growing the plants for his own use. The court heard the operation was a "fertile allotment rather than a cannabis factory" and temporary judge Ian Simpson QC added that if Murray had been found guilty of supplying he would have been jailed. Murray was given 240 hours community service. http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/hi/news/5047039.html
