UK: Home offers flood in for cannabis candidate

Tuesday 18 Apr 2000 CANNABIS candidate Marcus Davies, who is standing for election on a ticket of legalising the drug, today said his housing crisis was over. Mr Davies, who is contesting Peterborough's East Ward in the local elections on May 4, had told how he feared his stance may have led to him losing his home. As reported in The Evening Telegraph, he was served with notice to quit his rented city home in Briar Way Peterborough, days after announcing he was standing. But his landlord's property agents said the decision was nothing to do with his campaign for the Legalise Cannabis Alliance. Now Mr Davies (31) says he has received four offers of accommodation, for himself and his family from supporters. He said: The people offering me new houses are sympathetic to my campaign. I think there are thousands who silently support my campaign and are waking up to the fact." A spokesman for property agents Dakings, based in Broadway Peterborough, said last week: "My client simply wishes to re-occupy her property Mr Davies asked if he was being evicted because of his beliefs but neither I, nor our client, had any idea what his campaign is about." Mr Davies will stand against Mark Trevor Collins (Conservative) and Christopher Albert Plaisted Edwards (Labour).
