Stradboek News
Wednesday 01 Feb 2006 A man who admitted having one gramme of cannabis to "boil in tea", but denied robbing a woman of her jewellery was on Friday fined $30,000 or an alternative of six months in prison and placed on $30,000 bail on the larceny charge. Dwayne Mc Donald, 28, of Savannah Park, New Amsterdam pleaded guilty to possession of narcotics and not guilty to larceny from the person at the New Amsterdam Magistrate's Court before Magistrate Geeta Chandan. Mc Donald also has to do community service for a month. It is alleged that on January 20 at St Ann Street, New Amsterdam, Mc Donald stole one gold finger ring and $5000 from Trevaun Conway and on January 24 at Savannah Park he had in his possession one gramme of cannabis. Mc Donald told the court that he had worked in the interior four years ago and that he usually dealt with hot and cold and this caused him to have pain in his joints. He added that he was advised by a friend to use the cannabis for medicinal purposes and it helps him. He said he boils it in his tea. He told the court that he was sorry and that it would not happen again. He will return to court on February 13 for trial.
