Gambia: Dutch National Convicted for Drug Offence

Wednesday 08 Feb 2006 Marcelle Dessel, a Dutch national, was yesterday convicted and sentenced to a fine of D35,000, in default to serve three months in prison with hard labour. His trial was presided over by magistrate Kebba Sanyang of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court. According to PC 1748 Mballow, on 30 January this year, some detective police officers were on patrol in Kerr Sering where they found the accused in his compound with 8g of Cannabis Sativa. PC Mballow added that the accused was arrested and taken to Bakoteh Police station. The accused, however, entered a plea of bargaining with the National Drug Control Council.
