• Willow provides salicylic acid, the ingredient in aspirin. Egyptians
and Chinese and native Americans used willow for pain relief.

• Nettle (Urtica dioica) was used as a folk remedy for pain. Beating the
body with stinging nettles was recommended.

• Cannabis (Cannabis sativa) is said to have pain relieving properties.
Multiple sclerosis research has found that an active ingredient,
dronabinol, reduced the intensity of pain.

• Devil's Claw (Harpagophytum procumbens) is attracting interest as a
pain reliever. Research has shown it can help the pain of arthritis.
