Barbados: Marijuana Plantations

Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation

Friday 31 Mar 2006

---
As law enforcement officers in Barbados keep up their fight against
illegal drugs, they are facing another problem.

This time it is the cultivation of marijuana.

The drug squad has uprooted over nineteen hundred marijuana trees so far
this year.

That is almost eight hundred more than last year.

Figures show that in January the squad seized just fewer than three
hundred plants and an additional six hundred in February.

In March, they have reported seven hundred and sixty-nine plants.

The latest seizure was today at College Land St. John.

There, police uprooted 393 plants, some as tall as six feet.

No arrests were made and police are continuing their investigations.
