UK: Police Discover Cannabis Factory
Rye and Battle Today
Thursday 06 Apr 2006 A CANNABIS factory has been discovered during a police raid in Icklesham. Officers found 240 cannabis plants in a property on the main road on Friday. An additional 2.9kg of recently harvested cannabis buds were also found in a separate drying area. As well as the plants, hydroponics equipment used to cultivate the drug, including powerful heat lamps, were found spread over the two floors of the building. Two people were arrested and have been bailed whilst Rother CID continues its investigation. Police were alerted to the cannabis by PCSO Deone Powell who patrols the area. With the assistance of her colleague PCSO Dan Bevan, the factory was tracked down and monitored by the Rye Neighbourhood Policing Team. It was the second cannabis factory to be discovered in the area in a short space of time. Earlier the same week, plants were discovered being cultivated at a property in Hastings. PCSO Powell was congratulated by Chief Inspector Rob Carden for her work. And Sergeant Lee Floyd, of the Rother Local Support Team said: "This is an excellent example of a highly visible PCSO engaging within the community. "If it had not been for her interaction and initial investigation it is likely that this cannabis factory would have continued to remain undetected for some time." Deone Powell has been the PCSO for Icklesham for the last two years and has previously been praised for her good work. Deone has ambitions to become a regular police officer within Sussex Police.
