Letter: Open Minds Are Needed

Tom Hampson and Christopher Taylor

Leigh Reporter

Wednesday 11 Jan 2006

---
After reading his interview in the Leigh Reporter, my mate Chris, who
the interview was about, asked me for my view about it because he
thought it didn’t tell the full story behind him coming off heroin.

There was no mention of him being ejected from his government detox
programme after 11 days in a very vulnerable state.

If Chris didn’t have family and friends around at that time I wouldn’t
like to imagine what would have happened to him. He was thrown out of
his detox for testing positive for cannabis which he explained was
helping him get over his heroin addiction.

It was also the main ingredient he used to come off heroin when he was
left to his own resources.

He said eating cannabis made beating his addiction easier without the
side effects of his prescription medication. So between Christopher and
myself may we suggest a bit more open-mindedness on the rules used in
government detox programmes. It definitely worked for Chris and he feels
maybe more people could benefit in the future.

It’s amazing what a bit of love, guidance and mother nature can achieve
when mixed with sheer determination!
