UK: Court date for drug haul teen

---
A teenager was due to appear in court today after police made
potentially one of the biggest cannabis finds in Oxford.

Officers said they seized about 2,000 plants they suspect to be cannabis
at two houses in Fairacres Road, off Iffley Road, and Warwick Street.

Initially, police said on Thursday they had found 60 plants at the
Fairacres Road house, but that figure subsequently increased to about
800 after they searched the house in Warwick Street.

Yesterday, they revised it to more than double that.

The discovery was made after police saw a door at the Fairacres Road
house propped open by two plants in pots.

A 16-year-old was charged yesterday with possessing cannabis.

Last night, he was charged with producing cannabis.

The teenager, who was arrested on Thursday, was due to appear before
Oxford magistrates today.

He cannot be named because of his age.

Police continued to work at both houses yesterday, breaking down the
find and equipment before removing it in skips. Spokesman Tim Wiseman
said: "Around 2,000 plants were found and there will be tests to
determine what they are.

"The plants are all at various stages of growth, from seedlings to
fully-harvested plants.

"Officers are working to remove the plants and equipment.

"It could be one of the largest seizures in the city."

He said the operation was logistically a large one.

The Fairacres Road house is understood to be rented.

Detectives yesterday appealed for information about both houses as they
continued their investigation.

Mr Wiseman said: "We would like to hear from anybody who may know
anything about these plants or these houses.

"No matter how insignificant that information might appear, we would
like people to come forward."

Detectives went to the Warwick Street address after making the initial
discovery in Fairacres Road at about 11am on Thursday.
