Barbados: Two drug discoveries
Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation
Monday 10 Apr 2006 Police have made another significant drug seizure, this time at Road View in St Peter. They discovered over half a ton of marijuana and fourteen pounds of cocaine around 3:30 am, when members of the drug squad, the special services unit and the regional security system were conducting a training exercise in the north of Barbados. Lawmen say the marijuana is valued at three million dollars while the cocaine has a street value of three hundred and twenty thousand dollars. A boat was seized and a man is now assisting lawmen with their investigations, but three others escaped. Police expect to charge the man with importation, possession and possession with intent to supply drugs. ANOTHER DRUG INCIDENT Investigations are also underway into another drug incident. The police say the members of a football academy arrived at the Gantley Adams Airport from Trinidad on Saturday morning and collected their luggage only to discover later that one of the bags was not theirs. The lawmen were called in and the drug squad on opening the bag discovered six packs of vegetable matter believed to be cannabis. Police say the suspected drugs weighed twenty-two and a half pounds. Investigations are continuing.
