Wednesday 12 Apr 2006 A man has escaped being sent to jail after police found a cannabis farm at his home. Police discovered 39 plants at Mark Welsh's house, at Lancefield Avenue, Walker, Newcastle, in December last year. Officers carried out a search at another home, where Welsh later arrived. He was found to be in possession of a small amount of cannabis. The 27-year-old appeared at Newcastle Magistrates' Court and pleaded guilty to cultivating cannabis. Magistrates imposed a community order with 150 hours unpaid work. He was also asked to pay £50 costs.
