Spain: Police arrest 10 and seize 3.5 tons of cannabis in Castell
mp Typically Spanish
Monday 08 May 2006 A joint operation between Customs Authorities, and the Civil Guard in Granada and Almería provinces, has seized almost 3,500 kilos of cannabis and arrested 10 people in Castell de Ferro. The drug smugglers’ high powered speedboat was spotted by the electronic surveillance system shortly before 4.30 am on Monday, when it was some 8 miles to the south of Castell de Ferro. Civil Guard officers were waiting on the beach when it reached shore and the four crew members were arrested. They were all Moroccan. Six Spaniards, who were waiting for them on land, were also taken into custody. The Civil Guard had been on the trail of the group of drug smugglers for the past 3 months, since several vans, which they believed would be used to smuggle drugs, were reported stolen in Almería province. The drugs on board the vessel would have brought in 5 million euros on the black market. http://www.typicallyspanish.com/news/publish/article_4170.shtml
