UK: Notorious family ran illegal cannabis cafe

---
THE dad and brother of the Yardie gangster responsible for Britain's
longest ever armed siege face jail today for running a cannabis cafe.

Ranford "Rasta" Hall, 54, and his 26-year-old son Howell Hall ran the
Amsterdam-style smokers' den from a ramshackle garage.

Users could place an order at the counter before savouring their stash
while watching the latest pirate DVDs.

The entrepreneurial duo even carried business cards and installed a pal
as security guard.

Jamaicans Ranford and Howell are the father and brother of Jamaican-born
Eli Hall, 29, who shot himself dead after being holed up in a flat
surrounded by armed police in Hackney for 15 days over the 2002
Christmas holidays.

The Hall family have a notorious reputation and are well known to police
in Jamaica and South London.

Eli's brother Ermias, 17, was shot dead in a school playground in
Mitcham in July 2002 while his half-brother Dean was jailed in 2001 for
heroin dealing.

Eli Hall held a hostage, shot at police and finally set fire to the flat
after Britain's longest siege. He was wanted over the attempted murder
of two policemen.

Inner London Crown Court heard how Ranford and Howell Hall, of Railton
Road, Brixton, raked in thousands of pounds dealing cannabis from the
cafe in Norwood Road, Streatham.

Pal Simon Barjona, 31, of Holmesdale Road, South Norwood, acted as
security guard and handyman.

It was also his job to produce pirate DVDs of the latest blockbuster
movies to entertain smokers.

Police swooped on the garage-cum-drugs den in October 2005 and seized
between £13,000 and £15,000 in cash and 11kg of herbal cannabis during
two raids.

All three men were convicted of possessing criminal property through the
supply of drugs and were due to be sentenced today.

Ranford was also convicted of conspiracy to supply cannabis.
