UK: Police carry out drug raid
Gareth Bethell Swindon Advertiser
Thursday 18 May 2006 POLICE have uncovered a mini cannabis factory at the home of a middle-aged married couple. Officers raided the house in The Rosary, Wootton Bassett, on Tuesday. They found eight cannabis plants, a quantity of resin and equipment used for growing drugs, including powerful lamps. PC Nick Mackian, of Wootton Bassett police, said the seizure of the cannabis was good news for the town. "We are pleased with the result," he said. "It's limited any potential supply of cannabis in the Wootton Bassett area." And he praised the role of the public in the seizure. "The intelligence came from a number of sources including the public and police officers," he said. "We would like to thank the public and any further information they have on drug cultivation or supply would be greatly appreciated." Police say drug raids in Wootton Bassett are a rare event but they will always act on any suspicions. "We haven't done a drugs warrant for a while," PC Mackian said. "But obviously the information we had was very good and the more information we get the more warrants we will do." A 53-year-old man and 45-year-old woman are helping police with their inquiries about the drugs find. Last June nearly 500 cannabis plants were uncovered in a raid on a house in the middle of a Swindon street. Officers searched the three-bedroom property, in Wootton Bassett Road, after a police officer on patrol noticed bright lamps inside the house. http://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk
