The Tide
Friday 02 Jun 2006 The Federal High Court in Sokoto has sentenced one Abiodun Joseph to 15 years in prison for unlawful possession of 1,570 kgs of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa. Joseph was arrested on July 20, 2004, by men of the NDLEA in the Sokoto zonal command. This was adjudged to be the largest haul by the agency in the history of the command. Joseph was charged to the Sokoto Federal High Court on July 21,2004. Delivering judgment, Justice Adamu Hoban said the criminal case against Joseph was “proved beyond all reasonable doubt”. Hoban added that the convict was sentenced under section 10 (H) of the NDLEA Act of 1992, as amended, which provided for between 15 years and 25 years imprisonment. “The substances were scientifically tested and analysed, and they were found to be Indian Hemp,” he declared. Hoban said the judgment would serve as a deterrent to others. http://www.thetidenews.com/ http://www.ccguide.org.uk/
