Letter: Drug jail threat
Steve Clements, Legalise Cannabis Alliance The Press, Yorkshire
Monday 12 Jun 2006 OUR politicians do it again, announcing a proposed five-gramme limit for possession of cannabis. An evening's pleasure to millions of otherwise law-abiding citizens, a possible prison term for tens of thousands of them. Solvent abuse causes brain damage, and is the most likely cause of death amongst illicit drug use. I propose we make all solvents illegal and imprison anyone for up to 14 years if caught with a can of lighter fluid! After all, the government isn't showing much concern for people's health on that one, is it? If our drug laws weren't so stupid, corrupted by corporate greed, and involved some idea of sense and reality, then the scenario above would just be a joke, but I'm afraid the public are being conned if they believe cannabis is illegal because of the harm it can do.
