Australia: Workplace drug testing not reliable: Professor
ABC
Friday 30 Jun 2006 A national conference in Adelaide on drugs and alcohol has been told that drug testing in the workplace does not work. Professor Ann Roche from Flinders University in South Australia says current drug tests give false results and do not usually target alcohol, which is the most common drug of choice for the average worker. "A third reason, is that some drugs that are tested for, such as cannabis simply tell you that someone has used cannabis at some stage over the last couple of weeks," she said. "It is not a test of intoxication or of impairment." Professor Roche says there needs to be improvement in the technology used in workplace tests and the systems used to deal with positive results. http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200606/s1676156.htm http://www.ccguide.org.uk/drugtest.php
