UK: Cannabis factory closed down
Eastbourne Herald
Monday 03 Jul 2006 FORTY cannabis plants were seized following a drugs raid on a house in Old Town. Seven police officers swooped on the address in Royal Sussex Crescent on Tuesday morning after they received information that cannabis was being grown and sold from the house. They found a three-stage operation where seeds were being grown and propagated in an incubator in the rear patio of the property. At the bottom of the garden there was a greenhouse with a number of large plants inside and behind this was another windshield area with more mature plants. A total of 40 herbal cannabis plants were recovered from the address. Most of these plants were about to bloom and produce the cannabis heads which are sold. The operation was carried out by one of the town's Specialist Neighbourhood Policing Teams and was led by Sergeant Che Donald. He said, "This was an intelligence operation involving a total of seven officers. "There was an incubation chamber which had grown the seeds into saplings, which were then transferred into a greenhouse and a lean-to which was used for storage. "We also found books on how to cultivate the plants and fertiliser to ensure rapid production. "The smell of the plants was so strong that when we took the plants back to the police station it gave one of the officers a headache." Two men aged 18 and 46 were arrested and have been bailed to return to Eastbourne police station pending further forensic enquiries. After the raid, police community support officers delivered more than 100 leaflets in the surrounding area under the Crimestoppers Rat on a Rat campaign, which encourages people to call Crimestoppers ....... with any information relating to drug offences. http://www.eastbournetoday.co.uk
