Wales: Man walks past police raid with bin-bag full of cannabis
South Wales Echo
Thursday 29 Jun 2006 A 32-year-old man stumbled past a police raid while carrying a bin-bag full of cannabis, after splashing out £300 on the drugs. Police were just about to carry out a search warrant at a property in Corporation Road, Grangetown, when they spotted Anton Robins acting suspiciously while carrying a refuse bag. When they arrested Robins, they discovered 221 grammes of cannabis skunk - a potent form of the drug - inside the bag. Robins, of Bute Street, Butetown, appeared in Cardiff Magistrates' Court, where he admitted possession of cannabis. Mike Evans, prosecuting, said: 'The police were about to launch a search warrant when they saw the defendant walking on the opposite side of the road, carrying a bin bag, which was rolled in half. 'He started to behave suspiciously and walked off into Redlaver Street.' When the police caught up with Robins, he admitted he had 'skunk' inside the bag, and said the stash would last him for the next three months for his personal use, the court heard. Marilyn Bishop, defending, said: 'My client was not connected to the search warrant and it was unlucky for him that he was in the area at the time. 'He won £300 from a bet that he had made and decided to buy the cannabis, which was of a bad quality, and pick the best bits out of it. 'He had a cannabis habit and said it relieved the pain of his arthritis.' Magistrates gave him a 12-month conditional discharge.
