Brunei: Bail hearing for pregnant drug trafficker on July 18

Friday 07 Jul 2006 The bail application of a pregnant woman, who is currently remanded at Jerudong Prison for being in possession of 964.733 grammes of Cannabis, will be heard on July 18 for the ruling, the High Court ruled yesterday. The offence carries the death penalty. The woman, Jerry Wong, who is the second defendant being charged together with her partner Gary Shih Cheng Cheuan, made the application yesterday before Judge Datin Paduka Hjh Hayati due to her condition. The couple who are from Miri, Sarawak, have been in remand for nearly two months after being charged on May 27 with having in possession the said class B controlled drug for the purpose of trafficking. The offence allegedly occurred on May 11.
