Botswana: Four Zimbabwean men nabbed for marijuana

Tuesday 15 Aug 2006 FRANCISTOWN - Four Zimbabwean men are in police custody after being found in possesion of two black litter bags full of what is suspected to be marijuana. Insp. Osesile Mmitseng of the Francistown Diamond and Narcotics Squad said in an interview that the men were arrested at Blue Town after a tip off from members of the public. He said the four, who were nabbed while looking for buyers, are in custody and will appear in court on August 21. Meanwhile, Francistown police are investigating a case in which a man and his wife were beaten and their car stolen while they were engaged in a ritual at the cemetery. Francistown Police Station Commander Mokuedi Mphathi said the incident happened on Tuesday evening at Area A in Francistown. He said the car, a Toyota Corolla, was later found abandoned at Minestone. Also, two Batswana and a Zambian were arrested on Monday in connection with a stolen Nissan Navara. Francistown CID Superintendent Eldrin Ntshitang said the trio were arrested near Grand Lodge after at a tip-off. Ntshitang said police investigations indicated that the vehicle was stolen from South Africa and smuggled into Botswana en route to either Zimbabwe or Zambia.
