Nigeria: NDLEA destroys 25 hectares of cannabis farm
The Tide
Saturday 19 Aug 2006 The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed 25 hectares of Indian hemp farm and arrested four persons at Aniwen village of Wukari Local Government of Taraba. The state Commander of the agency, Alhaji Baba Husseini, who announced this in Jalingo on Wednesday, said the suspects would soon be arraigned for cultivating hard drugs. Husseini said some farms in eight more local government areas of the state had been discovered to be producing the drug and that the command would destroy all of them. He said that owing to the difficult terrain, the command would require no less than N500,000 and 25 personnel to destroy the farms in the state. The commander said his priority in the last few months had been to identify and destroy all Indian hemp farms in the state. He, however, expressed dismay over the indifference shown by stakeholders in the state towards curbing the menace of drug cultivation, marketing and consumption. He, however, reiterated the command’s commitment to flushing out those involved in the illegal act. http://www.thetidenews.com/
