UK: Cannabis swoop
North Devon Gazette
Wednesday 04 Oct 2006 POLICE in North Devon and Torridgeside have carried out a successful operation to locate and shut down a large cannabis growing operation near Little Torrington. Officers swooped on the rural property last Wednesday and executed a warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act. They described what they found as one of the largest cannabis producing set ups they had ever seen in the area. Officers dismantled and seized hydroponics equipment valued at thousands of pounds, which was housed in three large, fully sealed and self-sufficient outbuildings. In addition, more than 220 cannabis plants in various stages of growth were recovered. When cropped, they could potentially have yielded cannabis with an estimated street value of £40,000. Detective Sergeant Paul McWhinnie of the North Devon Targeted Policing Team, said: "This facility had the appearance of a cottage industry." n A 45-year-old man was arrested in connection with the inquiry and taken to Barnstaple Police Station. He has since been released on police bail until November 28. http://www.northdevongazette.co.uk/northdevongazette/news/ have your say:
