UK: Colin's battle to legalise cannabis
North Tyneside Today
Thursday 28 Sep 2006 A SELF-TITLED 'Cannabis Man' from Wallsend is fighting for the legalisation of cannabis for use in medical research. Having studied the cannabis plant for over 13 years Colin Ferry, dubbed Cannabis Man, believes that if the herb is used in a proper and controlled way it can assist in weight loss and ease pain. Colin said he is sickened by drug dealers who sell impure cannabis on the streets, often contaminated with other products, for their own gain. "What sickens me is that drug dealers make a fortune. "A lot of people think that it is a dirty drug, but it's not. If it's used properly it can help people with bad pains. "I love studying it and that's what I'm fighting for." Colin said that the cannabis plant in pure green form can be drunk as tea, made into food and drink, or made into ointment, all of which can act as pain relief, and that is what he believes should be made legal for medical purposes. He has contacted several high profile authority figures during, his on-going battle, including the Prime Minister, the Queen, officials at the Home Office, and has had contact with many doctors. He has set-up his own website and last week released an autobiographical book detailing research and his long battle for legalisation of the Class C drug, entitled The Cannabis Man. The book is available from Colin's website and internet auction site Ebay, with the first 500 copies on sale for UKP9.99, half the rrp of UKP19.99.
