UK: Cannabis dealer jailed for a year
Harborough Today
Thursday 12 Oct 2006 A DRUG dealer found with a £7,200 cannabis stash has been jailed for a year after plotting to sell the haul in Harborough pubs. Paul Longley (38) had acquired 966 grams of cannabis bush and 307 grams of resin on credit from a supplier, Leicester Crown Court was told on Tuesday. He intended to sell the Class C drug to people in pubs around Harborough so that he could pay off his supplier and make a profit. But he was thwarted when police raided his partner's home in Halstead Rise, Tilton-on-the-Hill, and found him with a small amount of cannabis. Officers later searched Longley's home in Bath Street, Harborough, and found the huge stash, which had a street value of £7,200. Barbara Graham, prosecuting, said: "In interview he admitted he was an habitual user. He said he had had the drugs for five weeks. "He said he had not paid for them and owed the supplier £4,000. His intention was to sell the drugs on to get himself out of a financial mess." Longley pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing a Class C drug with intent to supply as a result of the incident on September 5 this year. Gary Short, defending, said the father-of-two had recently split from his wife at the time and was under "enormous financial pressure". He told the court: "The stress increased his cannabis use, and he started to drink and spend a lot of time in the Harborough pubs. "He lost his job and got himself into drugs supply. He wanted to sell the drugs to pay off the dealer, pay off his loans and fund his own addiction." Passing sentence, Judge David Price told Longley: "You intended to sell drugs in public houses – and you seemed to see nothing wrong with that." http://www.harboroughtoday.co.uk/
