UK: Police raid London Road drugs factory
Hastings Observer
Friday 20 Oct 2006 A PROFESSIONAL cannabis factory was discovered inside a St Leonards house yesterday. Police raided the unassuming London Road terraced property at 10am and found it packed with an estimated 600 marijuana plants. State-of-the-art growing equipment, including a full range of high-powered lamps, reflective room insulators and full extraction and fanning systems, had been installed in the dining room and bedrooms. The only rooms not equipped for cannabis growing were the living room, kitchen and bathroom. Propagators and an area for encouraging seedlings with computer-controlled lighting conditions was also found in a downstairs cupboard. The distinctive weed-like plants, some as tall as 4ft, have an estimated street value of more than £100,000. The equipment used to grow them is also worth several thousand pounds. Huge amounts of electricity had been used to keep the operation running, but the power meter had been bypassed. Police say the factory must have been started weeks or even months ago, as some plants were at an advanced stage of maturity. Two women in their 20s were arrested at the scene. Immigration Service officers were also involved. A spokesman for EDF Energy said staff worked with police to make the electricity supplies safe. He added: "We are helping officers with their investigations." http://www.hastingstoday.co.uk/ -- WebBooks Amazing Amazon Store: http://astore.amazon.co.uk/webbooks05
