UK: That's Howard's way John Anson Burnley Citizen Friday 27 Oct 2006 THE world's most popular drugs smuggler returns to Burnley Mechanics on November 2 with a brand new show. Howard Marks will be presenting An Evening With Senor Nice, based around the second part of his autobiography which was published in September. "It's completely different from the last time I came up to Burnley two years ago," said Howard. "Although I will be allowing 15 minutes at the end for questions which is always interesting." continued... Senor Nice takes over from where the best-selling Mr Nice left off. Howard left jail in America after serving seven years for smuggling in 1985 and then found himself becoming a celebrity in his own right. In researching the book he travelled to South America to look into a family legend that he was related to the notorious outlaw Billy the Kid. "I always knew there were some criminal genes in the family," he laughed. "It wasn't really a surprise to discover I was related to Billy the Kid." Howard has become one of the most vocal campaigners for a relaxation of the drug laws and the legalisation of cannabis. "I think more people are coming round to my way of thinking," he said. "I have a tremendous amount of support from students, which perhaps isn't surprising." Now, very much in demand with his one-man shows and for his writing, Howard has no regrets about a life which has seen him placed on most wanted' lists by drug enforcement agencies around the world. "No, not any more," he said. "I'm at an age now when I'm comfortable with it all." This relaxed attitude will extend to Thursday night's show when Howard will be open to question. "There will be no censorship," he said. "People can ask whatever they want. "But there might be some questions that I choose not to answer. "If someone asks which MPs I have smoked a joint with I'm afraid I won't be telling. "There are a certain hard core of questions which crop up a lot but there is always a new one which can take you by surprise. "So I'd urge anyone coming along to the Mechanics to start thinking about a question they can ask that might surprise me." http://www.burnleycitizen.co.uk --- WebBooks Amazing Amazon Store: http://astore.amazon.co.uk/webbooks05
