Ireland: Expert group criticises Govt's drugs policy
RTE News
Friday 17 Nov 2006 An expert group on drugs has said the Government's policy on drugs does more harm than good. The Drug Policy Action Group also called on the Government to introduce a drug classification system, similar to that in the UK, where drugs like heroin and cocaine are dealt with more seriously than others, such as cannabis. The group is made up of academics and experts on drug addiction and social policy. At a seminar in Dublin today, it called on the Government to re-think its approach to the country's drug problem. The group said the majority of drug use is recreational and harmless, but that current policy does not reflect this. The experts called for penalties to be more proportionate to the harm caused by the drugs. audio and video report http://dynamic.rte.ie/av/2193035.smil http://www.rte.ie/news/2006/1117/drugs1.html -- WebBooks Amazing Amazon Store: http://astore.amazon.co.uk/webbooks05
