UK: Man fined for having cannabis
Ely Standard
Thursday 30 Nov 2006 PATRICK Wong admitted regular use of cannabis and told police he bought an ounce of the drug every fortnight when he was stopped by police with 13.2 grams of the substance. Wong, 22, of The Chase, Ely, appeared at Ely Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, where he admitted possession of cannabis on September 4. Prosecuting, Delia Matthews said: "When officers spoke to him they could smell, or believed they could smell, cannabis - they searched his car and found a bag containing 13.2 grams of the drug. Mitigating, Michael Judkins said: "Unfortunately, cannabis has become a problem for Mr Wong - he cannot get to sleep at night without it." Mr Judkins said Wong has been trying to cut down on his intake since becoming a full-time student at the University of Nottingham, and he had arranged to see a counsellor on campus. Presiding magistrate Hamish Ross said: "It is to your credit that you are seeking counselling for this issue." A £70 fine was imposed and Mr Wong was ordered to pay £50 costs. The forfeiture and destruction of the cannabis was ordered. http://www.ely-standard.co.uk/ webdesk@herts24.co.uk -- Please sign these petitions: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/search?q=Cannabis+ WebBooks Amazing Amazon Store: http://astore.amazon.co.uk/webbooks05
