Francis Tayanjah-Phiri Malawi Daily Times
Tuesday 05 Dec 2006 SIX people were on Friday arrested at a police roadblock near Senjere Trading Centre in Dwangwa for peddling the illegal chamba drug. Out of the six, two were women, who according to Nkhunga police officers, who hid cobs of chamba under plates in jumbo bags. “It is true that we have arrested two women and four men in connection with being found with cannabis (chamba). We erected a temporary roadblock to check on such things like chamba and we are glad that this has yielded results,” said Nkhunga police station Officer-in-Charge, Menasi Paseri. Paseri and some of the officers under his charge, who took part in the operation, said they suspected something sinister when they started searching a minibus, which was going to Lilongwe. “We first found a young man with a small bag we suspected was concealing something. A thorough search revealed the bag contained chamba, later we also found the two women who had jumbo bags that contained the same stuff,” said a CID officer, who took part in the operation. Those arrested were, Lucy Malikete, Grace Kapinga, Makiyasi Mapota, Andrew Shadreck, Thom Saidi, and Joseph Peleya. “However, at this point in time we cannot disclose the total volume of the illegal drug we seized until it has been evaluated and tested by the Chitedze Research Station, where we sent the entire lot. However, the six are appearing in court today to take plea,” Pelesi said. http://www.dailytimes.bppmw.com/article.asp?ArticleID=3527 -- Please sign these petitions: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/search?q=Cannabis+ WebBooks Amazing Amazon Store: http://astore.amazon.co.uk/webbooks05
