Press Release: Cannabis Social Clubs in Europe

Legalise Cannabis Alliance

Legalise Cannabis Alliance

Tuesday 05 Dec 2006

---
Cannabis Social Clubs (CSC) are associations of cannabis consumers, who
want to organise the cultivation of a limited amount of cannabis that is
enough in order to satisfy their personal needs in a legal way.

The www.cannabis-clubs.eu website offers information to all those who
are or wish to become active around the cannabis issue in Europe.

The site gives some examples of existing Cannabis Social Clubs in both
Spain and Belgium.

It contains information on current cannabis laws in several European
countries and on the history of European drug policy.

In short, the site is ready to become the center of the Cannabis Social
Club movement in Europe.

We hope that we provide the information you want!

Editor’s notes:

Cannabis Social Clubs are controllable by authorities. They may generate
official jobs and purchases of considerable amounts of goods and
services that can be taxed. Besides, authorities can monitor health,
hygienic and safety conditions during the entire process from
cultivation to consumption.

Today, Cannabis Social Clubs operate in Spain and Belgium, while in
other countries; initiatives are being taken to work out a similar
model. All depending on the legislation and political practice in the
countries, Cannabis Social Clubs can be established in various forms. In
countries where the commercial distribution of cannabis is already
allowed, such as the Netherlands, the model can be extended for
commercial purposes as well.

It is not likely that any national government in Europe is prepared to
abolish the prohibition of cannabis and hemp in the near future. At
least not if it is not forced to do so. The interests behind the
prohibition of cannabis are too powerful: the pharmaceutical industry,
the oil industry, the tobacco industry, the alcohol industry, the
security industry, and the banking industry, among others.

To obtain the end of cannabis prohibition, citizens must act themselves.
We must create public debate about it with innovative and solid
proposals. The Cannabis Social Clubs are an attempt to establish such a
proposal.

The Cannabis Social Clubs (CSC) are a concrete outcome of ENCODs Freedom
to Farm campaign, aimed at the right of every adult citizen of the world
to grow and possess natural plants for personal use and non-commercial
purposes, using all technical equipment that is available for this. At
the same time, individual countries should be allowed to experiment with
drug policies that are not based on a prohibitionist regime.

This site is aiming to help European citizens set up Cannabis Social
Clubs. It contains updated information on the legal status of cannabis
in European countries, and examples of existing CSC models. On the
discussion forum, questions will be answered on how to establish a CSC.
If you become a member of ENCOD, you can also participate in the
elaboration of a European proposal for Cannabis Social Clubs that will
be presented to the European Parliament in November 2006.

Companies may put advertisements on this site (we are working out a
proposal). The money will be used entirely to support the work of ENCOD.

The more people visit the site, the better. Therefore please add the
link to www.cannabis-clubs.eu to your website and tell others about this
new initiative.
