Wales: Cannabis smoker told he needs help
Cambrian News
Wednesday 17 Jan 2007 AN Aberystwyth man may need help to stop his cannabis use, magistrates have said. Magistrates told Gareth Bollard, of 2 Albert Place, that they wanted a pre-sentence report into him after he was convicted four times of cannabis possession in 2006. Twenty-six-year-old Bollard admitted possession of cannabis after police found herbal canna-bis in his home. Jeff Thomas, prosecuting, said officers executed a search warrant and found Bollard had 2.14 grammes of herbal cannabis. During a police interview he admitted that he had bought the cannabis for his own personal use. Representing himself Bollard said he accepted that he had broken the law. He said: “I got caught. I was in possession of cannabis. I hold my hands up to it.” But presiding magistrate Hywel Roberts said the magistrates were concerned at the number of convictions Bollard had for cannabis possession. He said: “This is the fourth offence in 2006 for cannabis possession and you have other previous convictions for cannabis. “Fines bounce off you. You seem to regard them as an occupational hazard. We would like the probation service’s expertise to see if you need help.” Sentencing was adjourned until 2 February for a pre-sentence report to be completed. Bollard was released on unconditional bail. http://www.aberystwyth-today.co.uk/
