Cyprus: Drug dealer jailed for 11 years

A LIMASSOL criminal court yesterday sentenced a man to 11 years in
prison after having found him guilty of possessing and selling drugs.

The crimes in question – involving possession and trading of six kilos
of cannabis – were committed last May in the coastal town.

In passing sentence, the court said it took into account the defendant’s
prior clean record and also his confession, which showed he regretted
his deeds.

The court noted the need for stiff penalties for those trafficking in
narcotics, which it called a “scourge on society”.
