India: Ganja plantation raided

Friday 19 Jan 2007 Mangalore, Jan 19: In a joint operation, Forest Department and Belthangady police raided an illegal plantation of cannabis in Bannadakallu Gudda near Belthangady. The team detected the ganja cultivation in three adjacent patches in the terrain area, Dr Harsha, ASP, Puttur, said here yesterday. The plants were at a flowering stage (six months crop) and were ready for harvesting, he said. Six people managed to escape, taking advantage of the rough terrain, when the teams raided the area, he said. The team will seek court permission to destroy the plants, he said.
