Spain: Drug smugglers get 17 years in prison

Three Moroccan drug smugglers who were caught with two tons of cannabis
have been sentenced to a total of more than 17 years in prison at their
trial in Málaga.

Two of the accused were also found guilty of assault for trying to run
over national policemen near a petrol station in Fuengirola when
officers moved in to make the arrests.

The police operation took place in March 2004 and followed surveillance
of the network on the Western Costa del Sol.

Three others who were tried in the case were acquitted of charges.
