Jemma Dobson thisislancashire
Thursday 01 Feb 2007 A SUSPECTED cannabis factory has been shut down by police who found 30 plants growing in a loft space. The loft of a house in Greenway Street, Darwen, was converted to a room where the cannabis plants were being grown side by side, said police. Darwen officers raided the house on Monday after tip-offs from members of the public. Police officers found the plants after a search of the house.Equipment was also taken. Sgt Jonathan Cisco, of Darwen police, said: "We exercised a warrant at the address on the back of community intelligence collected by my team. "We waited until after 9am when children nearby had gone to school. advertisement "We have also carried out a letter drop in the area to inform the neighbours and other residents on the street what has been happening, and reassure them of any support we can offer them. "The suspected cannabis factory was a fairly significant amount of cannabis. "Drugs warrants are executed as ongoing prevention for drugs on the streets, and we thank informants for their help in finding drugs in the community, and being able to remove them." l A 37-year-old man has been charged with the cultivation of cannabis. He was released on bail to appear before Blackburn magistrates on February 7. http://www.thisislancashire.co.uk/
