UK: Druggies in Deadly Grit Weed Alert

Sunday 11 Feb 2007 A DEADLY new type of cannabis called grit weed is sweeping Britain. Callous dealers add tiny beads of glass to the drug to increase its weight and bump up the price. But regular inhalation can cause the fatal lung disease silicosis - similar to asbestosis. The silicon comes from industrial sprays used for frosting glass or from reflective paint used on road lines. Grit weed began to appear on the streets at Christmas after a spate of police raids on cannabis growers hit supplies. The pressure group UK Cannabis Internet Activists - who want pot to be legalised - said: "The Government must run a high-profile campaign about the dangers of contaminated cannabis." The Department of Health said police had been informed about the lethal new drug and could now alert the public. http://www.people.co.uk/
